New Oxford Theological Centre

We are pleased to announce the opening of Newton House in Oxford this September, with Professor Michael A.G. Haykin serving as its first Director.

For some years now, the UK has been without a centre to match Tyndale House, Cambridge, in the fields of systematic and historical theology and church history, and we have been the poorer for it.

The vision of Newton House is to nurture the pastor-theologians, authors, and teachers of the next generation and foster evangelical theological strength in the church with the finest scholarship.

A number of esteemed evangelical theologians from around the world join Professor Haykin as Senior Fellows at Newton House: Dr. Andrew Atherstone, Dr. Gerald Bray, Dr. Bradley Green, Dr. Robert Letham, Dr. Michael Reeves, Dr. Philip Ryken, Dr. Corneliu Simuț, and Dr. Kevin Vanhoozer.

Activities include: i) a main annual conference in Oxford; ii) an annual research conference for PhD students; iii) a semi-annual journal which will publish the proceedings of the main conference; iv) publications for the wider church; v) regular gatherings (and webinars) in which staff and fellows can mentor younger theologians.

Michael Haykin said: “A prominent lament in recent years has been that there is a growing distance between the academy and church. Newton House, named after the eighteenth-century evangelical John Newton, is an exciting new development that will seek to bridge this gap through theological conferences, a semi-annual journal, and occasional publications. It will seek to demonstrate that theology and church history can, and must, be studied for the good of the church and the glory of God.”
